GREASE

Grease was one of the biggest things that came out of the 1950's.It set new fashion trends and personified everything that was the 1950's.

The 1950's stereotype and style.
1.  The cashmere sweater.
2.   Poodle skirt.
3.  Rolled up t-shirt sleeve (black or white t-shirt good).
4.  Pedal pushers (gold is good). 
5.  Black leather jacket--the collar must be turned up to be "hep."
6.  The scarf.
7.  1950's gym wear.
 
   
     

Teddy Boys

In England Teddy Boys sported long jackets with narrow contrasting lapels and matching contrast drainpipe trousers. Their hair was slicked back into a  style with long sideburns. They wore crepe soled shoes which helped with the dance movements of jiving. Their girlfriends wore eye make up and took every fashion to excess.

     
This is typical of ladies fashion in the 50s.
     
 

Fashion Successes

Fashion successes were Bill Blass and his blue jeans , poodle skirts made of felt and decorated with sequins and poodle appliques , pony tails for girls, and flat tops and crew cuts for guys. Teenagers were defined as a separate generation and were represented by James Dean who wore blue jeans in Rebel Without a Cause and created a fashion and attitude sensation. Activities we liked were flying saucer watching , and watching and dancing to Dick Clark's American Bandstand .  Fad hits with kids were toys like hula hoops and Hopalong Cassidy guns and western gear, Davy Crockett coon skin hats and silly putty .

     
               
   
Some of the most famous singers lived in the 50s and that is why it is such popular years. Elvis even lived in the 50s.
 
             
 

WHAT WE THINK OF FIFTIES FASHION:

I THINK THE CLOTHES ARE SO REVOLTING. THEY ARE OLDER THAN MY GRANDMOTHER. SHE WOULD HAVE DRESSED BETTER THAN THAT.
